We got some much-needed sleep last night and went to get breakfast at the hotel buffet. After going back to the room to check email, we walked down to the clothing warehouse where we tried on our clothing that we were being loaned for our stay in Antarctica.
This included rain gear, Goretex jackets and pants, boots, gloves, hats, work pants and a vest, socks, long underwear and some other stuff that I am probably forgetting. We stuffed it all in a bag, which we gave back to them so they could load it on the ship in a couple of days.
We then walked to the dock to look at the ship and see if all of our equipment had arrived and to meet the crew and rest of group that will be on the ship and at Palmer station. Luckily, all of our boxes were there and we set up the Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV's), battery charging equipment, and computers in a laboratory on the boat.
We will discharge and then recharge the vehicles batteries so they can learn the maximum and minimum of the battery life to maximize the duration of the runs we can do while in Antarctica.
We will continue cycling the vehicles batteries during the transit down to Antarctica. We also had a group meeting to go over room assignments, ship safety and rules, and plans for the cruise. After everything was set, we went out for dinner and back to the hotel for another night of good rest.
